Jeremy Murdock

Artist Statement: Jeremy Murdock is a project manager with the Mississippi State Community Action Team (MSCAT) at Mississippi State University. Murdock received both a Bachelor and Master of Landscape Architecture degree from Mississippi State University and has been working in that field since 2004.

His personal and professional interests are in community planning and design. MSCAT has been an outlet for his love for the state of Mississippi and his passion for planning and design. Traveling to communities all across the state, Murdock has learned the issues related to rural community planning and the obstacles that communities face. At the same time, he has been able to see all of the great historical and cultural aspects of Mississippi, and he has grown to appreciate the uniqueness of his state.

For Murdock, photography is more than a hobby or an art. It has become a medium to showcase what is unique about the State of Mississippi and to highlight the seemingly minor elements that make each community, large and small, unique. His photographic style, although still evolving, features the distinct character of Mississippi communities as well as the special landmarks across the country. From Carrolton and Clarksdale to New York and New Orleans, Murdock’s photography attempts to capture the details that make this state and this country extraordinary.
